Bible Lesson About Choices Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, kids will:

  • Understand what a choice is
  • Learn that God cares about our choices
  • Practice making wise, kind, and honest decisions
  • Know they can ask God for help before choosing

Step 1: Bible Lesson About Choices

Welcome & Icebreaker (15 minutes)

The leader can say something like this:

” Hello kids today we are learning about making good choices.” “Can you tell me what is a choice? “

Wait for answers.

Then say ” A choice is when you pick one option from two or more options.” ” So tell me, what makes a choice good or bad?”

Wait for answers.

Then say something like this “A good choice usually has good results after you pick the option while a bad choice usually has bad results. For example if you choose to disobey your parents you usually get a bad punishment but if you choose to help someone in need you usually get a good feeling knowing you did a good deed. Let us see if you can decide which choice is good and which is bad with this game called this or that.”

Activity: “This or That?”
Ask kids to stand up. Read choices and have them move to one side of the room or the other. Have one side labelled “good choice” and the other side labelled “bad choice.” If it is a good choice kids should move to the side labelled good choice and if it’s a bad choice kids should move to the side labelled bad choice.

Here are the choices you will read:

  • Helping someone carry books
  • Pushing in line
  • Sharing a snack
  • Breaking a toy
  • Saying I cleaned my room but didn’t.

You can add other choices to this list if you would like to make the game longer

Step 2: Bible Lesson About Choices

Bible Story & Discussion Time (15 minutes)

Leader can say something like this:

“We all have to make choices. Let us read the Bible verse for today which comes from Joshua 24 verse 15. It says “You must choose for yourselves today. Today you must decide who you will serve.”

“In today’s Bible story someone had to make a choice. Would he obey God’s instructions or would he make another choice. Let us listen and see what happens.”

Discussion Questions

  • What choice did Moses have to make? (Hint: He could obey God’s instructions or …)
  • Was it easy or hard to do what God said?
  • How do you think Moses felt after he realized that he made a good choice?
  • Do you think God helped Moses to make a good choice and to obey?
  • What would you have done if you were Moses?

Step 3: Bible Lesson About Choices

Let’s Sing (5 minutes))

The leader can say something like this:

“Making a good choice is not always easy. God however can help us when we need to make a choice. I want you to remember these 3 steps when you need to make a choice. First, you should stop or pause, then you should think about the options you have then you should pray to God and ask him for help. I have a song to remind us of these steps whenever there is a choice to make. Lets learn it together.”
