-Myrtle

We know a few persons named Myrtle but Myrtle as one of the flowers in the bible? Oh yes. Myrtle is a flower that produces an essential oil which serves many functions including being antiseptic. According to Petal Republic, Myrtle flowers are usually all white or cream-colored which usually symbolizes purity, hope, and rebirth. This is one of the flowers in the bible and is found in Isaiah 55:13.

Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

In Song of Solomon 2:1 there is also mention of the rose of Sharon where it reads; “I am the rose of Sharon.” This is possibly one of the most well-known flowers mentioned in the Old Testament in the Bible. It is believed that this flower is used to represent beauty and divine love.


-Olive Tree Flowers

Olive trees have longevity and the Psalmist David declares that his trust in God has longevity just like an olive tree. We can find the olive in Psalm 52:8.

-Mustard

Hotdogs with mustard anyone? That’s the first thing that came to mind when I heard mustard. Well the mustard plant is a flower and better yet one of the flowers in the bible. We find it mentioned in Matthew 13:31. As per Wikipedia, the mustard is any one of several plant species in the genera Brassica and Sinapis in the family Brassicaceae (the mustard family). The bible talks about a grain of mustard which is so small but can grow into a great plant. So too, even if our faith is small, when we exercise it there will be growth.

-Figs

Yummy figs, wait, what did you just say? Figs are flowers? According to the Huff Post, figs are inverted flowers. That’s a hard one to wrap the brain around so its much easier to tell you that Song of Solomon 2:13 mentions figs so its one of the flowers in the bible.

The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.


-Almond

These flowers in the bible are really eye opening. Did you know that the almond tree has flowers? Light bulb moment for those of us who only purchase almond as a food. Well guess what, the word of God mentions the almond tree which has wonderful flowers, its found in Jeremiah 1:11. What an awesome God!

-Hyssop

Psalm 51:7

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

The hyssop flowers are said to be symbols of the hope of eternal life as when Jesus forgives us of our sins we have the hope of being with him eternally. “Lilly of the valley, let your sweet aroma fill my life.” Do you know that song? Well, its based on the scripture found in Song of Solomon 2:1. Lilies are also mentioned in Matthew 6:28; when God tells us that if he takes care of lilies he will take care of us as we are more valuable than lilies.

This may be why lilies are the flowers that are believed to symbolize hope, renewal, life and also a symbol of overcoming hard times. -Mandrakes

Mandrakes are thought to represent fertility and love. It is thought to have played a part in the conception of Rachel who was barren. This is found in Genesis 30:14.
